How To Prevent STDs

How To Prevent STDsAt ThingsMenBuy.com we are the same as you, we all want a great sex life.  For some of us that is getting into serial dating and hookups, for others it is about finding a committed relationship, but whatever we all want we need to know how to prevent STDs and stay healthy.

Prevention of STDs is much better than having to find out how to live with the ones that can be controlled but not cured.

According to the American Sexual Health Association, nearly half of us will get an STD at some point in our lifetime, so listen up!

Which STDs Are Common In Men?

#1. Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

HPV is the most common STD in both genders and most people contract some form of HPV in their lifetime.  There are many different types, some will not be noticeable at all, whilst others can cause genital warts and cancer.  There is no cure for those who are infected, but many people will not have any symptoms or health problems at all; others will only know they have HPV when they contract genital warts.  These days there is a vaccine which can prevent HPV.

#2. Genital Herpes

Around 1 in 5 men in the US have this STD, most of whom are 25 or under.  It can be caught from anyone who already has herpes (even if they have no visible signs) through oral, anal or vaginal sex.  There is no known cure, but this STD is not associated with any health risks, it will usually just cause discomfort .

#3. Chlamydia

This STD rarely causes symptoms in men, even though it is fairly common.  Things to look out for are a discharge from your penis, a burning sensation when urinating and occasionally swelling of one or both of your testicles. Treatment: antibiotics.

#4. Gonorrhea

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that around 820,000 cases of this STD are reported each year, more than half of which are within 15-24 age range.  Symptoms in men can include a urethral discharge up to 2 weeks after contracting the disease and sometimes testicular or scrotal pain. Treatment: antibiotics.

 #5. Syphilis

This STD is not as common, with around 64,000 cases yearly.  Syphilis is more common in men, especially men who sleep with men.  Symptoms are in four stages, initially starting with a small sore that may resemble an ingrown hair on the genitals; progressing to an all over body rash; damage to internal organs; paralysis, dementia and death.  Treatment: antibiotics.

How To Prevent STDs

The best way by far to stay healthy is to prevent the STDs in the first place!

#1. By NOT having sex at all!

This is the only reliable way to prevent STDs!. I don’t know about you guys, but the team at ThingsMenBuy.com think this is a terrible idea!

#2. Vaccination

You can be vaccinated against HPV and Hepatitis B up to the age fo 21 (it’s up to the age of 26 for women), so if you have teenage kids, get them vaccinated to prevent HPV later in life.

#3. Reduce number of sexual partners

It’s a numbers game, the more people you sleep with, the more likely you are to get an STD.

#4. Be monogamous

If you find a long-term partner, have an open and honest conversation and get tested, that way you will know if you are both safe and STD free.

#5. Use Condoms

Using condoms is the MOST effective way to guard against STDs.  If you enjoy sleeping with multiple partners, especially hookups whose sexual history you do not know, as a responsible man, carry condoms with you and ALWAYS use them.

The good thing about always carrying condoms, is you can use them for many life hacks, as this vid shows you!:

How to Approach a Woman With Headphones

How to Approach a Woman With Headphones How to approach a woman with headphones without seeming “creepy” and “invasive”?

With all of us increasingly reliant on listening to music or interacting with our phones when we’re out and being plugged into our technology, it is becoming more and more difficult to catch someone’s eye or start a conversation.

How to Approach a Woman With Headphones

On doing a bit of research, it seems that how to approach a woman with headphones has been the subject of heated debate.  A “dating expert” called Dan Bacon wrote a post about it and the debate has been raging ever since!

Here is his take on the post via a podcast interview:

Is It A Bad Idea?

After the blog was posted, there have been many negative comments about how the post encouraged guys not to take “no” for an answer and how Dan Bacon gave them permission to be invasive, creepy and sleezy without thinking about how the woman with headphones might want privacy and would not be interested in any male advances.

People took to YouTube and Twitter to air their views and wrote posts too and also claimed that with the uproar that the original post caused, that Dan Bacon had quickly edited out some of his text:

A post on The Guardian by Martha Mills who suggests that Dan Bacon’s advice, “… is basically “No doesn’t mean no, it means keep going until you get what you want – the screaming will stop eventually”. Because apparently that’s what women want – and forms the basis for a million rape defence cases…”

So guys, we need to tread very carefully in this instance as I’m sure the last thing you’d want to do is upset anyone from the fairer sex.

Is It A Good Idea?

On the other hand, there has been some support for Dan Bacon, he has printed many positive statements from women on his blog to convince us and others have taken to YouTube in support of the article:

So…. Is It OK to Approach A Woman With Headphones?

After reading this post, it could well put you off EVER approaching a woman with headphones!

My personal opinion is that:

  • if you act with complete respect (as I’m sure you guys will)
  • appreciate that a woman may be wearing headphones to purposely shut out the outside world
  • walk away at the first sign that this woman does not want a conversation with you

then, it is ok to make eye contact, wave in a friendly fashion and say “Hi”.

You will instantly know if any of these gestures are welcome and then you can either walk away, it that’s the immediate vibe you get or stop for a chat if you both want to.

I’d personally prefer to head to Tinder or one of the sites that Tom, from the ThingsMenBuy.com team recommends and spend my time and efforts on finding a hookup or something more, from a woman who also definitely wants to do that too!

Best Places to Meet People on New Year’s Eve

Are you looking for a casual hookup and sex? There are many sites and apps out there, at ThingsMenBuy.com, we’ve looked into the best places to meet people on new year’s eve.  Many of the dating sites have relationship-building undertones, but we’ve focussed on the places where people want sex, just like you.

Our ThingsMenBuy.com serial dater, Tom, has written an article on the 5 best adult dating sites for hookups, check it out here.

We have chosen 3 more, to help you find the best places to meet people on new year’s eve.

First of all check out this hilarious fairy story of what hookups are all about:

Our Top 3 Best Places to Meet People on New Year’s Eve

#1. Tinder

tinder thingsmenbuy.comTinder remains the most popular hookup site to meet new people and is the go-to destination for sex. The sheer number of people on Tinder increases your chances of finding someone.

The biggest downside of Tinder is that, due to the volume of people, you’ll most probably come across someone you know, but you can always swipe left and pretend you never saw them!

If you are looking for the most choice and availability, you can’t go wrong with Tinder.

#2. Blendr

blendr thingsmenbuy.comBlendr was created by the guy or started Grindr (for gay hook-ups). Blendr uses GPS to find hookups with people near you and you can use it when you are on the go in different locations.

Blendr was intentionally created for hook-ups, you just have to be careful as some of the people on there are looking for more and want a serious relationship, so choose carefully.

It is a good app for finding the best places to meet people on New Year’s Eve, just because of it’s capability to use GPS to match you with hookups that are local and available instantly.

#3. Bumble

bumble thingsmenbuy.comBumble was created by the co-founder of Tinder, Whitney Wolfe and is an app where the girl has to make the first move.  So if you guys are lazy daters, this could be the app for you!

I guess this could mean that if your hookup speed is the most important thing, then you might want to choose a different app.

I have to admit to liking the idea of the girl making the first move – at least that means I’m not wasting my time on someone who’s not into me at all!

They are our top 3 picks for finding a hookup on New Year’s Eve (or indeed any day of the year!) Remember to have a look at Tom’s post too (see above).

Here’s to a successful hookup New Year!

Best Ideas for Parties for New Year’s Eve 2018

Best Ideas for Parties New Year's Eve 2018It’s nearly 2018 and the team at ThingsMenBuy.com thought we’d come up with some Best Ideas for Parties for New Year’s Eve 2018.

We all want to start off the New Year having a good time, brimming with positive energy and looking forward to the year ahead.

You could go to an all-singing, all-dancing party which costs mega bucks or visit Times Square and see the ball dropping, or spend time with your loved one and have a romantic meal at a restaurant.  These can all be great fun if you find the right crowd of people or you just want an intimate night with your partner, but how about hosting your own celebration, here’s our Top 3 best ideas for parties for New Year’s Eve 2018.

That way you can invite the guys that you really want to be there and celebrate with your favorite people.  (If you and your friends have kids, a home-based party is an ideal way to combine family fun with an adult celebration too).

Our Top 3 Best Ideas For Parties For New Year’s Eve 2018

#1. A Cocktail New Year’s Eve Party

If you have a group of friends who like to celebrate their New Year’s Eve by experimenting with a few different drinks, then a cocktail party could be an ideal answer.

To keep the costs down, you can do some forward planning, choose six cocktails and ask people to bring along the ingredients for one of them or the main spirit in the drink and then you provide the mixers.  Another alternative is to ask for a contribution beforehand, then make up a quantity of large pitchers of each cocktail to get the party rocking.

For some Martini cocktail ideas, have a look here.

A cocktail party is also a good excuse to dress up – think the roaring 20s, flapper-style dresses for the ladies and DJ’s for the guys.

#2. A Cool Themed Party

There are some brilliant themes for your New Year’s Eve Party, try one of these:

  • A Black and White Ball just like Truman Capote in 1966
  • A Bonfire Party – fire up the BBQ and enjoy some classic steaks like the ones here and our recommended craft beers to wash them down with.
  • A Hollywood Party – invite your guests to dress up as their favorite Hollywood actor.  (We recently had a ‘Dead Singers’ Party and the house was full of Elvis, Janis Joplin, Freddie Mercury and Marilyn Monroe!)
  •  A Decade Party – choose your favorite decade, make a suitable playlist, research the food and drink which was trendy in that era and you’re all set!

If you need some party game ideas, here’s a few to get you started:

#3. Hire A Venue for Party

If you want to keep the cost down and go for something a bit more adventurous than home, you could hire a boat or a cabin and invite all your friends to join you for a New Year’s Eve mini vacation.

Talking of mini vacations, my favorite would be hiring a ski chalet with my friends, something like this:

Whatever you do, stay safe, enjoy and Happy New Year!

Things to Do for Men During Christmas Break

christmas break sign with santa on the beachWhenever I have a break in the action, I like to saddle up and go someplace. Travel is a passion of mine. Whether it’s someplace new or I’m revisiting a favorite spot, I am ready to roll! When it comes to things to do for men during Christmas break, you know I’m going to be talking about travel.

Plenty of Things For Men to Do During Christmas Break

To me, packing up and heading out is a super way to clear out some mental cobwebs and have some big boy fun! I like to party so I’m going to focus on some places right here in the USA that you can go to and have some party time.

The great thing about the places I’m going to mention is that they are pretty damn affordable. In other words, I want to get maximum bang for my party bucks.

Biloxi for Casinos and Beaches

nighttime at the beach in biloxiFirst off is Biloxi, Mississippi. I’ve always had a good time visiting this coastal gem of a place. They’ve had hurricanes come tearing through and ripping up the place but they have persevered and Biloxi should not be overlooked. Check it out, there are casinos, and plenty of beaches. Two of my favorite places to get my fill of adult beverages.

I like casinos because they have great bars, good restaurants, and extended hours. Bing, bang, boom! Three solid hits right there. If I’m gambling, I can get either free or cheap drinks. Now don’t be a sucker, my friends. Getting ripped while gambling is a recipe for financial disaster. Have a couple at the tables and then head to the bar itself for some serious drink time.

Beaches are always great because of the view and the vibe. Searching out a few beachfront restaurants and/or bars is a great way to spend a little daytime fun time.

We are in the sweet spot between November and April to save money on lodging. Keep in mind, the temperature is going to be low so this time of year is not the time for a Biloxi beach summer vacation.

Checking Out Daytona Beach

Next up is Daytona Beach, Florida. I always get a kick out of Daytona whether it’s during their two annual motorcycle events, race events, spring break or not an event happening at all. Even this time of year you canhotels beach and boardwalk at night in daytona beach count on daytime high temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s. Since Daytona has over 20 miles of beach fronting the Atlantic Ocean, you can definitely enjoy that. Hell, you can even drive on a lot of the beach in Daytona which I love to do!

Near the beach are a bunch of bars so you can party with the locals! Tourists plus locals is often an interesting mix. Blend in and go with the flow, my friends.

Daytona Beach has a lot of resorts right on the beach so you can get a room with a view. But, that view comes with a higher price tag. I wanted to give you fair warning.

Don’t forget they have some fun museums and you can check out their famous race track too. See, I even can name stuff to do that does not involve alcohol consumption. Surprised, aren’t ya?

Memphis for Blues, BBQ, and More

Hey, let’s go to Memphis, Tennessee and party like Elvis! Much fun to be had in Memphis and you don’t necessarily have to bust open your piggy bank.

part of beale street at night in memphisMemphis, to me, means music and Bar-B-Que! For music lovers, get the Backstage Pass at the front desk of the Rock ’n’ Soul Museum. For $84 the Backstage Pass will get you into the museum where you just bought it, Graceland for the Elvis Experience tour, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, and Sun Studio. What a deal for anyone into great music and history!

Great barbecue abounds in Memphis. Just Google it and a whole bunch of great places will pop up on your screen.

The night time is the right time to hear great music and knock back some serious drinks on Beale Street. Beale Street is the home of the blues! But it doesn’t stop there. Rock and Roll, Jazz, R&B and more can be heard spilling out of the clubs and onto the sidewalks and street. It is musical heaven!

It is the Right Time for Las Vegas Time

Finally, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t mention Las Vegas, Nevada. Seriously, I don’t know how anyone can go to Vegas and not have a blast. Restaurants, bars, casino’s, and all kinds of other attractions are literally everywhere in Vegas!

I always hit downtown and do the Fremont Street Experience. I enjoy the overhead free show on the LEDview of fremont street experience downtown las vegas nevada canopy on Fremont street. When it gets dark, the light show plays every hour.

During the day and into the night you can see fun street performers. Don’t be a stiff, if you see a good performer and watch their show go ahead and tip them a five or a ten.

Around Fremont Street, there are three stages for bands. The whole place turns into a giant street party. The casinos set up bars on the street so drinks are easy to get. People have a fun party attitude and I just love drinking on the street while listening to great music and seeing everybody having a wild time!

Downtown isn’t the only place to be in Vegas. There’s fun to be had on the strip and all over town. I’m always ready to go to Vegas and do it up!

Do It or Regret It!

I’ve given you plenty of things to do for men during Christmas break. Don’t be a slouch. Get up, get out, and go! That’s the only way to live.

All I Want for Christmas is Craft Beer

So many craft beers, so little time…

“Dear Santa, Hi. It’s me, John. The Craft Joint John. You know, the one that loves craft beer. The one that loves craft beer and writes about it for thingsmenbuy.com. That narrows it down and makes it easier for you, right? Good. Look, I’m going to make it easy for you. All I want for Christmas is craft beer. American brewed, please. Nothing wrong with out of country beer. I like many. I drink them sometimes. But, as you know, I generally drink and support independent brewers as much as I can that are right here in the USA.”

On The Naughty List

“Okay. By now I imagine you’ve checked me out and figured out exactly who I am. But before you crumple this letter allow me to plead my case. Sure. You have me on the naughty list. No surprise. Consider the source, will ya?”

“You probably checked with my girlfriend and she said that, “hell yeah, he’s one naughty mofo!” That shouldn’t immediately relegate me to YOUR naughty list. Come on, Santa. I imagine Mrs. Claus might say you belong on a naughty list too…HER naughty list. We’re all men here. We get a little cray cray now and then. I think that’s something we’d brag about and not punish. Give a brother a break, you know? And about the Mrs. Claus thing, I say, “right on you reindeer wrangling bearded sleigh rider!”

Don’t Listen to THEM

Dancing on the bar!

“Back to me. I’m thinking you heard from some bar owners that have said I’ve been naughty. Alright, a lot of bar owners. And bartenders, and servers, and customers in the bar. Well, all the naughty naysaying has to be good naughty and not bad naughty. I just like to have fun. I can get a little loud at times, and rowdy. Is it a bad thing that sometimes I’m the only one dancing at the bar? Or harassing, good-naturedly mind you, that idiot at the jukebox that played a crappy song? Or verbally lambasted those plebeians for ordering and, holy shit, drinking that piss-water so-called beer? Or loudly rooting for the OTHER team because some tanked loser sports fanboy was acting like a little crybaby bitch because HIS team got screwed by the ref? Or telling some impatient jerkwad that he needs a shower and a breath mint because he got all pissy about having to wait two minutes to get served when the bartender is in the weeds and then the impatient asswipe stiffs the bartender? Or trying to hustle a few bucks at the bar by encouraging some wet-behind-the-ears three-quarters in the bag frat boys to join me in a not so friendly game of 3 card monte that they can’t possibly win?”

“All that stuff I feel compelled to do in bars is not naughty. It’s fun loving. Santa, you need to get some details. Get the whole story. Nobody is hurt…at least not permanently. It’s simply a little adult fun. They always welcome me back in. Almost always. Sometimes. Being a really good tipper may have something to do with that which is another reason that I shouldn’t be on the bad naughty list.”

“Please, Santa, overlook all the things that, on the surface, might put me on the trash heap. The drinking, the At the Hop Dogma Brewerycarousing, the cock-eyed egoism, the rowdiness, etc. It’s all innocent man fun. I know you have to throw down now and them, especially after all the deliveries for Christmas. I can see you hanging out in your wife-beater (no offense to the Mrs.) tank top with an ice cold frosty in hand, yelling at the tube while binge-watching all the Die Hard flicks…again. Hey, you deserve it.”

Please, Please…Christmas Craft Beer!

“I think I deserve it too. At least deserve a break or a little fellow bro-sideration. Santa, please. All I want for Christmas is some tasty, American brewed, independently owned, high alcohol (wink, wink) craft beer! To sweeten the deal, you can take a little break during your impossible night and knock back a tasty brew with me before finishing those deliveries. What do ya say, Santa? Deal? I’m thinking yes. I’ll be waiting…and grateful.”

Merry Christmas.

What to Drink on Christmas Eve

have yourself a merry little cocktail signThe question on everyone’s lips is: What to drink on Christmas Eve? Yes? No? Maybe? I certainly don’t know your thoughts, but my thoughts are that Christmas Eve is the perfect day and night to seriously get that Christmas cheer flowing! Naturally, I plan on keeping the adult beverages flowing all through Christmas day also. Since we must start somewhere, Christmas Eve is perfect.

Not the Time for Moderation

My answer to the “What to drink?” question is quite simple. Everything and anything! Hold on! Please don’t misunderstand. I am not advocating that you become a “garbage drunk” for the next two days, though intoxication may very well help you deal with or at least endure relatives, in-laws, and over budget spending.

What I am saying is imbibe in your favorites and venture out of your usual so you can explore the wonderful world of alcoholic beverages as yet undiscovered. Drink craft beer. Drink wine. Drink cocktails. Have some punch. Get into the holiday spirit by consuming a reasonable amount of spirits. If you’re in a safe place that does not require driving or doing anything that may cause harm to yourself or others, I say, “What the hell” and push your own personal consumption envelope a little.

The Lowdown on What to Drink on Christmas Eve

Craft Beer for Christmas Eve

christmas waitress holding beers

Pretend she’s holding craft beer…okay?

There are many craft beers to choose from to celebrate the holidays. A few that are generally available nationwide are Bell’s Christmas Ale, Sierra Nevada’s Celebration, and any craft beer that you haven’t sampled previously. Be adventurous. Just go for it.

The Connection: Red Wine and Rudolph’s Red Nose?

Was Rudolph of Red Nosed Reindeerdom sporting a red nose from dipping in some cabernet? I don’t know. But I do know this. When it comes to wine for Christmas and Christmas Eve, I say Port. Dow’s, Fonseca, and Sandeman’s are brands that are usually easy to find and offer tasty ports throughout the port spectrum. Sticking with reds, I say go to California and spend less than $25 a bottle. Ancient Peaks Zinfandel works well, Au Bon Climat 2012 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir is versatile, and Banshee Mordecai Proprietary Red Blend is a lesser-known standout. Also, J Lohr Syrah is a drop dead deal at around $14 per bottle!

Some Bubbleschampagne filled glasses and christmas ornaments

If you fancy sparkling, Veuve is great, Mumm’s offers value, and the classic champagne is Dom Perignon. Why not enjoy a bubbly Christmastime? Extra points for clinking those glasses during a toast.

Whites for You But Not for Me

I’m not a big fan of white wines. There are plenty of great ones, no doubt, but just not my thing. Doesn’t mean I can’t suggest some from around the USA. From California’s Central Coast, Treana’s 2014 Blanc is a nice blend of mostly Viognier and Marsanne with a bit of Roussanne. Barboursville out of Virginia has a 2015 Reserve Viognier that is well worth your time and effort. Heading back to the west coast, from Oregon look for the 2015 Chehalem INOX Chardonnay. Its quality is above and beyond its price point.

Cocktailing on Christmas Eve! Drink Eggnog!

For cocktails, the first thing you absolutely must drink on Christmas Eve is Egg Nog. Spiked eggnog that is. Itnice glass of eggnog has to have a bit of bourbon or blended whiskey, if you prefer, in it. As far as I’m concerned, alcoholic eggnog is the official adult beverage of Christmas Eve and Christmas. No arguments to the contrary allowed. Period.

Man Up with Classic Cocktails for the Christmas Season

Ready for a cocktail after your alcoholic eggnog? Go classic. Mix a nice martini of your choice using quality gin or vodka (if you must). But please men, leave the apple chocolate berry “whatevertini” for the ladies. If you view that last sentence as sexist, remember the name of this website. Plus, I never mean any harm. The other classic Christmas season cocktail I endorse is non other than the venerable Manhattan. I’m a big scotch fan too, so I also endorse the Rob Roy. It’s Christmas so keep it classic.

Filling the Punchbowl for Christmas Eve

Finally, if you must mix a punch be sure to make vodka your base alcohol. Smirnoff is a brand that is known for quality yet won’t empty your wallet if you get a couple liters for your punch. That’s right, liters. Go big or go home friends! I prefer some frozen condensed juices for intense flavoring along with seltzer and 7-Up to round things out. Pop in some tasty fresh fruit to class up that big bowl of holiday cheer!

There you have my suggestions on what to drink on Christmas Eve and beyond. Enjoy the holiday season to the utmost while imbibing in adult beverages. I’ll leave you with this…Cheers! Oh, and Merry Christmas!

What Are Nootropics?

What Are NootropicsGood question, What Are Nootropics?  They are often referred to as ‘smart drugs’ or cognition enhancers and they are advertised as providing an improvement in your cognitive function, particularly, memory, creativity or motivation in healthy individuals.

In our fast pace of life, we all want to get more things done, potentially fast track our careers and have the drive and energy to make the most of every opportunity. Let’s delve a bit deeper into smart drugs and see if they could help you.

What Are Nootropics?

The term nootropic was created in 1972 by a Romanian psychologist.

Nootropics are currently fashionable among students at highly competitive academic colleges, professionals and basically anyone who is looking to improve their overall mind health.

Are Nootropics Safe?

Nootropics are sometimes categorized into seven different types; Racetams, Choline, Vitamin B Derivatives, Peptides, Ampakines, Natural Nootropics, and Smart Drugs.

The most common and popular nootropics seem to be the racetam group of supplements.  These include, Piracetam, along with Pramiracetam, Oxiracetam, and Aniracetam, all of which are composed of nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen.  These are all known to improve memory, mood, focus, learning ability and energy.

Some research will make a distinction between nootropics and ‘smart drugs’ and suggest that whilst nootropics are safe, there may be more side effects with ‘smart drugs’.

You will also find lots of information on ‘Nootropics Stacking’ as the perfect way to build a combination that will suit you best.

If you decide to try nootropics, it’s a good idea to do some research in deciding exactly what you want to achieve through taking nootropics and potentially doing some stacking so that you include the best nootropics for your own personal goals. If you are thinking about a nootropic stack, here is an article on the most beneficial nootropics to stack together.

Are Nootropics Healthy?

At ThingsMenBuy.com we all love the idea of a ‘4 Hour Work Week’ as first suggested by Tim Ferris.  Let’s see what he has to say about ‘smart drugs’

Natural Nootropics

If you don’t want to go down the synthetic route, you might want to look into natural varieties of nootropics (Tim Ferris mentions some of them in the video above).

Some of the best natural nootropics on the market are; Valorcine, Ginkgo Biloba, and Bacopi Monneri.

DISCLAIMER: I’m not personally recommending any of these products or suggesting that you try them – it is completely up to you guys to do your own research and make your own decisions.

I hope this article has given you a little more information into what nootropics are, after this brief intro, I’ll leave it up to you to decide if you want to use nootropics. I personally need to do some more research as there are SO many possibilities out there!

What Are the Most Common Problems in Aging Males

What are the most common problems in aging menI don’t consider myself old, although I’m not as young as I used to be. As I am increasing in age, I wonder what are the most common problems in aging males? Yep, that’s not me. ——->

It’s always a good idea to be proactive about one’s health. I also believe your mental health is just as important as your physical health. What I mean by that is if you tend to have a positive outlook on life, and are happy most of the time, that reduces stress on the body. Stress alone is one of the major factors of health problems.

As a society, if we could eliminate, stress, sugars, and iodized salt, overall, we would be much healthier. Wouldn’t it be great to have corporations make more food that is wholesome, healthy, good for the body, and affordable for everyone? Those sugary and chemical laden foods on the shelves of our grocery stores cause more harm than we know. Plus young kids become adicted to the sugar.

As a man or woman, I know we really don’t want to dwell on getting older and seeing our body deteriorate. Believe me, I’ve watched my parents, and it’s no picnic. It SUCKS to put it politely.

It’s good to know what could start happening, so you know the signs. This post is not meant to replace anything your doctor has recommended. Just to make that clear right now.

The most common problems or health risks in men

Prostate issues are one of the leading problems men face. Whether it’s an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer, the risk of these tow go up as a man’s age increases.

Cardiovascular Disease is in short, heart disease or hardening of the arteries. Cholesterol plaque over time blocks the arteries in the brain and heart. If plaque becomes unstable it can cause a clot which can cause a stroke or heart attack. This is one main reason to get your cholesterol checked at an early age and every five years after.

Lung Cancer spreads early and large usually before any symptoms. Tobacco smoke causes 90% of lung cancer.

Diabetes normally starts silently and over the years, blood sugar levels increase. This disease can affect many systems and parts of your body. Excess glucose acts like a poison to your body and is all but sweet! If you have excess thirst and frequent urination, go see your doctor.

Other ailments that aren’t as life threatening in the moment, but could lead to serious conditions are Erectile Dysfunction and Depression. Either of these can be triggered by underlying poor health conditions. If you see any signs of these, you may want to make an appointment with your doctor.

Ways for men to be more healthy

  • If you smoke, stop.
  • Get regular exercise. At least 30 minutes a day. I love my punching bag.
  • Eat more fruits, veggies and less saturated fats. (trans fats)
  • Do an occasional detox.
  • Cut out iodized salt. You can replace it with pink Himalayan salt, it’s actually good for you. Not sea salt either, with all the leaking radiation in the sea.
  • If you’re overweight, start a plan to loose weight by gradually changing your diet and starting an exercise plan.
  • Limit alcohol consumption, meaning don’t drink a 12 pack a night or an entire bottle. I’m not promoting you to drink, I’m saying alcohol and drug abuse can cause serious problems to the organs of your body.
  • See a physician at an early age to have your cholesterol checked and an overall physical.
  • Intermittent fasting works great for me.

Final Thoughts

Like I said before, consult your doctor before you take anyone’s advice.

We live in a “fast” world, where we tend not to take the time to “smell the roses.” My getaway is the bike. When I take it for a cruise, all my stress tends to melt away. Find something you love to do and do it on a regular basis. Get outside, nature is good for you. Get up and exercise. Start eating better until it becomes more of a habit. You don’t have to go on a diet, simply make daily choices that are better. Incorporate good into your life daily. Find reasons to smile. Live the fullest life you can and don’t let the world slip away without being the you that is waiting to be expressed. Like Wayne Dyer said. “Don’t die with your music still in you.”

Christmas Drinking Games

Christmas Drinking GamesWhen it comes to Christmas, parties, friends, and alcohol, you can turn pretty much anything into Christmas Drinking Games. For instance, you can do something as simple as pick a word and anytime someone says that word, they have to drink. Then choose another word and if that word is said everyone has to drink. Do this while playing cards, a board game, like I said, pretty much anything.

Here’s a warning, so you won’t end up sick, if you’re not a big drinker, start simple and don’t overdo it.

There are all time favorites like beer pong, cards, pictionary and many more you can turn into a festive christmas party game for the holidays.

Make it a movie night plus a drinking game.

There are all time favorite movies like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf, and even the Grinch that you can use.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Drinking Game

The goal here is to discretely drink every time:

  • Clark does something awkward
  • There is singing or music
  • Ellen calls Clark “Sparky”
  • Someone has on an ugly Christmas sweater
  • You hear singing

Make someone else drink x2 when:

  • They don’t drink at the times above
  • You are the first to see a Santa hat
  • The swimming pool is mentioned

Elf Christmas Movie

Elf Drinking Game

Drink every time:

  • Buddy says, “That’s my dad!”
  • Buddy sings
  • The Naughty or Nice list is mentioned
  • Buddy Screams “Santa!”
  • Buddy breaks something
  • Someone mentions Christmas Spirit

Other Fun and Creative Drinking Games

Christmas Singing Game

Everyone has their favorite shot in hand, with refills nearby. Choose someone to start. They sing the first line of their favorite Christmas song. When they stop, the person to the right of them has to continue and sing the next line of the song, and so on. The first person who messes up or doesn’t know the next line has to take a shot. Then you continue where you stopped and the next person has to choose a new song and start the game again.

Know your ABC’s of Christmas

In this game, sit in a circle or around a table. Choose someone to start. The person who starts has to say a word related to Christmas that starts with A, like Angels, the next person has to say the first persons word plus their word, the third person has to say the first, second and their word, and so on until you go around the room or someone messes up. That person takes a shot of their favorite tequila. Then you can start the game over, going backwards of where you stopped in the alphabet.

You've Been Tagged Drinking Games for Christmas

You’ve been tagged

When people arrive at the party, give everyone a sheet of Christmas box tags and ask them to write their name on it, you know the kind you write on the gift to label who it’s to and from. The goal of the game is to place a tag on people and not get caught. The person who empties their sheet first wins and get to decide who they want to take a shot or guzzle a beer. If you get caught tagging someone, they make you drink and take the tag off and place it back on your sheet.

One rule is you can’t tag anyone before they know about the game. If you are caught doing this, like greeting them at the door, then the person who catches you gets to decide if you take a shot or two.

Pack your next Christmas party with as many fun drinking games as possible. Buy plenty of craft beer, tequila, vodka, any other liquor that is your crowds favorite, clean the grill and fire it up. Hold on, unless it’s snowing outside, then just scratch what I just said.

Last words.

Drink responsibly and let people crash at your place if they’ve had to much to drink.

The History of Hugo Boss Clothing

Hugo Boss is a brand I first remember from way too many years ago. I always thought the suits they madethe history of hugo boss clothing looked pretty damn badass. They had a classy, stylish and distinct look to them. I thought it would be interesting to take a look at the history of Hugo Boss clothing. There are definitely some surprises in their history.

When the 21st century rolled around, the company Hugo Boss AG was huge. They were the biggest company putting out clothes men wear in all of Germany. They were a dominating force with licensing deals and distributing designer clothes for men.

The Beginning of the History of Hugo Boss Clothing

Hugo Boss was the founder. He started his clothing company in a town in southern Germany near Stuttgart called Metzingen. Hugo didn’t start making stylish suits. Far from it. The company first produced clothes for working folks. They made things like uniforms, overalls, and raincoats.

Next up the company had some very questionable, to say the least, business and practices. They did business with the Nazis. Starting in 1933, they made uniforms for the Nazis. They made Hitler Youth uniforms and for the entire unified Nazi armed forces known as the Wehrmacht. A specific problem was that Boss used forced laborers. He obtained forced workers from both Poland and France for his factory to increase the output. Many years later, the company issued an apology when these terrible practices were brought to light.

Hugo Boss Dies

Hugo Boss died in 1948. After his death, the factory he started went back to making uniforms. Uniforms for civilians that is including police and postal workers.

It wasn’t until 1953 that the Hugo Boss company made their first suits for men.

Changes in Ownership and Management

boss activewearThroughout the ensuing years, there were changes in company management and ownership. In the early 70’s, the grandchildren of Hugo Boss took over the manufacture of work clothes. His grandchildren, Jochen and Uwe Holy, had more in mind. They decided to get into the fashion business. They focused on manufacturing fashionable men’s suits and also sportswear. It was in the following years that Hugo’s grandchildren shaped the company into one known for producing stylish suits, fashionable menswear, and chic formal wear. Because of these efforts, Hugo Boss became a brand identity firmly associated with quality menswear. They were the first German company to do so.

Reboot the Brand and Relaunch

The company continued to expand within the fashion niche and became well known internationally as a designer fashion house. The Hugo Boss company continued to expand their brand. Throughout the 80’s, they moved into leatherwear, fragrances, dress shirts, knits, and dress shirts.

Goodbye to the Hugo Boss family…

In 1985, the company went public while the Hugo Boss brand, especially their suits, became associated with young professionals.

Eventually, the Hugo Boss family ceased to control the company. Starting in, and ever since 1993, Mazzotto S.p.A. in Valdagno, Italy, has held a controlling interest in Hugo Boss AG. Under their control, the company has been operating in more than ninety countries with a product-wide range that includes eyewear, cosmetics, fragrances, hosiery, watches, shoes and more.

Thanks to Mazzotto, Hugo Boss AG has used a three-brand strategy for their menswear. They market under the Hugo, Boss Hugo Boss, and Baldessarini labels. Boss Man is considered the core brand of the company and it has three subsidiary labels which are Black Label for both business and leisure wear, the Orange Label covers urban sportswear and their Green Label is for outdoor activewear.

Hugo Boss Collections

The Hugo brand is for their avant-garde collection. This is specifically designed for both business and leisure. Noteworthy is that unconventional details are mixed with new style materials.

The Baldessarini brand is their top line sophisticated label. This brand showcases the finest Italian fabrics and hand stitching.

There have been missteps in the company history. Back in 1987, they attempted to start a clothing line for women. It failed…back then. Eventually, though, they hit pay dirt with a brand called Boss Woman. They targeted upscale businesswomen with sophisticated tastes which resulted in success.

Hugo Boss is a brand that continues to thrive. Their designs have been called functional yet dynamic. They pay great attention to details and are known for clean lines.

It looks, to me, that the Hugo Boss brand will continue far into the future. Just like thingsmenbuy.com.

More Christmas Craft Beers

One week until Christmas. It is the holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to one and all! Before I write some more about Yuengling next time, in this edition of The Craft Joint, I thought I’d mention a couple more special Christmas craft beers perfect for this time of year.

Select Christmas Craft Beers

A Holiday Craft Beer Veteran…Anchor!

Way back in 1975 Anchor Brewing, of Anchor Steam fame, decided to release the first holiday beer in America. That hadn’t happened since the years of Prohibition. Every year since 1975, Anchor has created a brand new, secret recipe and brewed their Christmas Ale. No slouchers, they also come up with a completely new and unique label for their annual Christmas Ale.

Their Christmas Ale is a heavily guarded recipe. It is sold only from early November to mid-January. If you haven’t had any yet, go get some right now. I’ve been a fan of Anchor Steam since I first had it back in 1980 when I was visiting Los Angeles.

According to the Brewmaster

This year’s run is sure to be a winner. Here’s what Anchor Brewing’s brewmaster has to say about this year’s Anchor Christmas Ale. “This year’s Christmas Ale has a strong malt profile that is enhanced with wintry spices,” said Anchor Brewmaster Scott Ungermann. “The beer pours a deep, dark, mahogany brown with a creamy, tan head. It has flavors of creamy bittersweet chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and toasted nuts, with a rich, smooth, velvety mouthfeel. This is the third year in a row that we peeled back the layers of spices, taking some ingredients out and making those remaining stand out even more. In the meantime, we added more specialty malts, some that we’re using for the first time. The combination of malts, spices, and hops add layers of complexity to the beer and bring this year’s ale to a new level.”

I’m all jacked up about that! I want to say, “Thank You” to Anchor Brewing for supplying the above information about this year’s unique Christmas craft beer offering.

Red is a major Christmas color. Santa Claus has a mostly red suit. Rudolph is called the “red” nosed reindeer for a reason. Candy Canes have a red stripe. Holly has red berries. And Troëgs puts out a red Christmas Craft beer!

Time for Troëgs Mad Elf!

I covered the West Coast with the Anchor Steam Christmas Ale. Now I’m heading East. All the way over to chocolate town itself, Hershey, PA which is home to Troëgs Independent Brewing. Troëgs has been around and been independent since 1995. They make a variety of damn tasty beers. If you’re in their distribution area, you might be lucky enough to get a tulip filled with Mad Elf.

Mad Elf is offered by Troëgs every year from around the middle of October through December. Mad Elf is a red beer. Yep, it has a wonderful ruby-like red color. The folks at Troëgs “blame” their inner “Mad Elf” for taking over the brewing operation this time of year. Only fitting, then, that they put out a beer named “Mad Elf” every year for us to enjoy over the holiday season.

At 11% Alcohol By Volume, Mad Elf definitely qualifies as strong. It is, indeed, a strong dark Belgian style ale. They use Pilsner, Munich, and Chocolate Malt. Hallertau and Saaz hops are added along with a unique Spicy Belgian yeast to complete the list of goodies used to brew this seasonal craft beer.

Troëgs says to expect a medley of flavors the strongest being honey, cocoa, and ripe cherries. In the backfield, you might notice allspice, clove, and some cinnamon. Of course, you’ll be sure to notice the red color.

With a name like Mad Elf, how could you possibly pass this tasty brew up during Christmas? I hope you can find it on tap. It is available as far west as Cincinnati, OH and other select spots eastward from there.

From me and everyone at Things Men Buy, enjoy the holidays and as ever, Drink More Christmas Craft Beers! Ho! Ho! Ho!

The History of Under Armour

The History of Under Armour

At ThingsMenBuy.com, we love our Under Armour gear, so we thought we’d dive into the history of Under Armour.

We love the look and feel of Under Armour whenever we want to dress casual or play the sports we enjoy.

The History of Under Armour

Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank who was 23 at the time. He founded it in his granny’s basement in Washington D.C. and after he got his first team sale for $17,000 he moved to Baltimore, Maryland.  The current headquarters are in Tide Point, which Plank acquired in 2011.

Why Did Kevin Start The Company?

Kevin used to play fullback at the University of Maryland, and at the end of a game, like the rest of us, always used to have sweat-soaked t-shirts.  He noticed that his compression shorts, that he wore during practice, stayed dry and this was his inspiration for designing a t-shirt which was made from synthetic fabric that had a moisture-wicking quality.

Once Kevin had graduated from Maryland, he made his first prototype of the t-shirt and gave it to his teammates and friends, some of whom had gone onto to play for the NFL. A former teammate, Jim Druckenmiller, became a back-up quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers and told his teammates about Plank’s shirts. Soon, Jeff George the quarterback of the Oakland Raiders, was on the cover of USA Today wearing an Under Armour shirt.

During his career, George was a quarterback for the Colts, Falcons, Raiders, Vikings, Redskins and Seahawks. Here’s some of his highlights:

Big Breaks in the History of Under Armour

#1. Warner Brothers 1999

Under Armour outfitted two major films, Any Given Sunday and The Replacements. Any Given Sunday was directed by Olive Stone, and Al Pacino shares a great motivational speech with his football team before an important game:

On the back of this film, Plank took an ad out in the ESPN The Magazine which generated $750,000 in sales and it meant he could finally put himself on the payroll.

#2. First retail store 2007

annapolis store under armourThe first full-line, full-price Under Armour Store opened, late 2007, in Westfield Annapolis Mall in Annapolis, Maryland.

The concept of the first store was for customers to feel like they were walking through a stadium tunnel on game day.  This look was created by using unique, custom 4′ x 8′ concrete panels to create the storefront design.

By the end of 2016, Under Armour had around 300 stores.

#3. 10-year agreement made with Major League Baseball December 5 2016

At the beginning of 2020, Under Armour will replace Majestic, who has been MLB’s uniform provider since 2004.

The History of Under Armour Partnerships

Under Armour has also built it’s brand with some great partnerships with NBA Stephen Curry:

and also golfer Jordan Spieth:

As the weather gets colder, Under Armour cold weather gear comes into its own, Tim talks about some of the best of their clothing for the winter here.

We like to look after you guys who read our blog, check out our Under Armour coupon codes here.

How to Make a Cadillac Margarita

glass filled with a cadillac margaritaTequila is my friend and I’m not afraid to admit it. I like tequila. I like the flavor. I like it on the rocks. I like it as a shot. I especially like it in a margarita. A regular margarita is tasty. But if you want the best of the best either order one up or learn how to make a Cadillac Margarita.

Bar Time

I’ve spent quite a bit of time in bars. Yeah, newsflash right? Actually, a lot of my time spent in bars has been as a bartender. I mean, I’ve spent plenty of time in bars as a customer too. However, I’ve been lucky enough to sling drinks in bars from the West Coast to Key West.

The reason I’m mentioning this is that I’m talking about mixing a drink. A damn delicious drink. Mixing a quality cocktail like a Cadillac Margarita is more than simply slopping some alcohol together. There is definitely a craft to the successful mixing of quality cocktails. I’ll do my best to share what I consider the right way to do it.

How to Make a Cadillac Margarita the Right Way

If you want to learn how to make a Cadillac Margarita, read on. It is quite simple. Sadly, some people just don’t do it right. They think that all you have to do to make a regular margarita a Cadillac is to use Grand Marnier instead of the usual triple sec or the higher quality triple sec brand liqueur Cointreau. Nothing against triple sec or Cointreau. In fact, Cointreau is a fine liqueur and is great for many cocktails. But not for the drink that I’m talking about.

In my opinion, to make the best cocktails you have to use superior ingredients. All the way around. Don’t pay a quality price for a cocktail and end up getting a sub-par drink.

Use Top Quality Tequila

The usual way that many make a standard margarita is to use tequila, triple sec, and sour mix. A step up from this is to use fresh lime juice. If fresh lime juice is used it would be a shame to use rail tequila and triple sec. Fresh lime juice calls for a call tequila like Jose Cuervo Silver or Sauza Silver or a premium tequila brand like Milagro Silver or Corazon Blanco. If you use any of the tequilas I mentioned or comparable tequilas then you should also upgrade your well triple sec to Cointreau.

I’m now going to tell you the best way I know how to make a Cadillac margarita.

You want a premium tequila but you don’t have to go crazy here. We’re making a cocktail, we’re not sipping straight tequila. So, besides the ones I already mentioned, you could go for Herradura Blanco or Hornitos Plata.

Stick with freshly squeezed lime juice. The difference between fresh squeezed versus sour mix or limeade or some other lime concoction is huge. Don’t skimp here. Go with freshly squeezed lime juice.

Grand Marnier is a Must

Grand Marnier is a requirement. Grand Marnier is not triple sec though it is similar. The difference is brandy versus neutral spirits. Grand Marnier is made using brandy.

Use cubed ice. Crushed ice melts too quickly you’ll end up with a diluted Cadillac margarita. That’s the last thing you want.

For the rim of your glass, do not use regular table salt. It is too fine. Use margarita salt. The crystals are larger and more coarse.

To begin, chill your cocktail glass. You can use a “margarita glass” or a rocks glass. After you’ve chilled the glass, take a fresh lime wedge and rub it around the rim of your glass. Now, place the rim of the glass in your margarita salt. Don’t twist the glass, you want a decent amount of the salt adhering to the rim. After rimming the glass, fill it with fresh cubed ice.

stemmed glass filled with margaritaFinally…The Mixing

Now, fill your cocktail shaker with cubed ice. Add an ounce and a half of your premium tequila, add one ounce of Grand Marnier and three-fourths of an ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice. Shake well and then strain into your ice filled, salt-rimmed cocktail glass. To complete this incredibly tasty cocktail simply add a “float” of the Grand Marnier. All float means is to lightly pour a small amount of the liqueur around the top of your cocktail. Garnish with a fresh lime wedge.

Now comes the best part…drink your Cadillac Margarita!
