Best Gadgets of CES 2017

While we weren’t lucky enough to travel to CES 2017 in Las Vegas, it sure looks like there was plenty of cool new stuff to gawk at this year. We’ve scoured the web for all the write-ups on what was the best new gadgets to come out of the convention this year and compiled them into a list for our readers below.

Did you go to CES 2017 and find some cool stuff that we missed? Be sure to comment below with our omissions. We’ll follow up on some of these products with features on ThingsMenBuy.com very soon once we can get our hands on these hot items.

Top Gadgets at CES 2017

milo breathalyrzer

Milo Sensors

You may have seen someone at the bar sometimes with a pocket breathalyzer. If you ask me, these things are a bit dangerous as I’ve seen it turn into a contest to see who can blow the highest blood alcohol level. Not a good game to play.

But on the other hand, it’s a handy gadget to have so you know when you are OK to drive home or not. It’s never a good idea to risk your life and those of others on the road, and we’ve all experienced those times when you think might be right on the brink and have to make a choice after having some adult beverages.

It looks pretty silly to pull out a breathalyzer and blow into it, so Milo Sensors took that aspect out of it with their wearable device that reads your blood alcohol level. You wear it on your wrist like a watch and it determines your level based on the perspiration that comes from your skin. Great idea!

fitness tracking ring by motiv

Motiv Fitness Tracking Ring

With another device in the wearable technology category, above you see the Fitness Tracking Ring by Motiv. It’s great having those apps on your phone, or a smartwatch, that keep track of your steps throughout the day and other activity. But you may not always want to have your phone with you, and not everyone likes to wear a wristband.

Motiv downsized the wearable fitness technology by condensing it into a ring for your finger. Pretty ingenious, if you ask me. Not only does it keep track of your steps and distance and calories while you’re on your Bowflex Treadclimber, but it also monitors your sleep patterns and includes an optical heart rate sensor.

On one charge you can get three to five days of life out of it. I don’t know how they manage to fit so much technology into something so small, but this is a pretty cool invention.

project valerie concept computer from razer

Razer Project Valerie

Everyone dreams of having that awesome home office setup with multiple screens side by side for maximizing all the work (and it’s a great gaming laptop too, of course) to be done. But it’s not within everyone’s means to have three computers on the desk, so Razer came out with the next best thing.

Above you’ll see the Project Valerie concept computer from Razer, which has two additional screens that fold out from the sides to give you essentially three screens. Each screen is 17 inches and has a 4K resolution display. You can use them all independently or as one big screen.

The drawback, this sucker weighs a whopping 12 pounds so it’s much heavier than your normal laptop, but that can be expected with all the extra hardware it packs.

aquatic drone PowerRay

PowerRay Aquatic Drone

Drones were all the rage these last couple years and now they’re going from the air to the sea, or whatever body of water you’re nearby. This looks like an absolute dream if you’re a fisherman and I wish I had one already to bring with me when heading to our cabin in the Upper Midwest.

It works in both fresh and salt water and has a 4K camera that sends high res images to the user/operator. It has an optional FishFinder so with all that put together, there’s no reason you won’t be able to find a hot spot when out fishing.

w series tv from lg

LG W-Series TV

It seems like every year that televisions get bigger, higher res, and thinner. This new TV from LG is so thin that it’s made to naturally blend into your room as if it were wallpaper. Yes, it’s that thin.

This 77-inch screen comes in at only a minuscule 27 pounds! For reference, a similar sized tv from Sony or Samsung weighs about 80 pounds.

How do they do it? The guts of the system are separate from the screen itself, kind of like an external hardware in a Dolby Atmos sound bar that also has I/O ports for all your connectivity needs.

Wrapping Up CES 2017

This is just barely scratching the surface of all the cool tech stuff that came out in 2017 at CES, but are the first ones to catch our eye when browsing all the new releases. What’s your favorite of the above-mentioned products? Anything in there you must have right now? Let us know in the comments below.

Things Men Buy Updates for January 2017

The end of the year shaped up to be quite interesting and full of action. I spent December 3 at my friend Michele’s 50th birthday party in Fort Lauderdale. It was a Great Gatsby theme and she had a turnout of about 100 people. It was a lot of fun to dress up in a tuxedo and see so many old friends.

The week after I went out to Las Vegas to see my girlfriend. It was COLD! Luckily I had a new Under Armour jacket that kept me warm! She was pretty busy finishing up with her clients at the hair salon so I spent most of my time working from various restaurants and coffee shops around Las Vegas. It’s in the area of Summerlin, so there’s a lot more to do out there than just the deviant stuff on the Las Vegas strip, so it’s pretty tolerable.

I wish I had more time to review more stuff, I feel like I let down a lot of readers by not doing more stuff for the Christmas Season. Work was crazy. Between my SEO Agency, my e-commerce businesses, my affiliate marketing tutoring course, and my consulting gigs, life was chaotic. Mix in the fact I had to shop for everyone close to me, care for my son, and well, you get it – the Holiday season was just madness.

I spent a week in Vegas before returning to South Florida, which was a nice change of hotness! The weather was still 80 something and the water was still blue. I love South Florida and all it has to offer.

I joined up at a new gym – a cycling bar. It’s a good compliment to Orange Theory Fitness, which I’ve enjoyed a lot. It’s helped me maintain my 2016 New Years Resolution of losing weight, but I like to always change things up so I figured adding the cycling would beef up my legs and really help me get to new levels.

I did Christmas at my parents house in Fort Myers before heading out to the Caribbean for a few days over New Years. It wasn’t as fun as some other trips I’ve been on, but it was good to get away.

So it’s probably time to set some goals for 2017.

2016 brought a lot of growth to Things Men Buy, and I’m looking to continue the uptick in traffic and readership. As I find new products and items to review, you can count on them not only being reviewed here, but also on my YouTube Channel. I’m going to start incorporating a lot more video into the site, and am toying with the idea of setting up a review studio type room in my house.

I’m personally working on some resolutions as well – I’ll be back in touch with those so I can hold myself accountable like I did last year!

Tom Brady Sleeps in Under Armour

As we’re in the thick of the best part of the football season, the NFL playoffs, I’ve been going into overdrive in my consumption of football news and came across this article in the Boston Herald. It talks about how New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is wearing Under Armour Athlete Recovery Sleepwear to rest and recuperate better. It’s one of the many new items that UA announced at the recent CES 2017 event.

If you’ve visited this site before, you know we’re huge fans of the UA brand and were enthralled with the technology that is being utilized to help us sleep-deprived folks. The secret is the in the material and patterns used, that they become basically “smart pajamas” that absorb infrared wavelengths and reduce inflammation, helping you rest better and promoting better recovery time.

For athletes, there is nothing better to deal with the bumps and bruises than getting good rest. Time heals all wounds, but NFL players only have one week off between games. Maximizing all their efforts to recuperate is essential. With apparel like this, Brady can squeeze more recovery into his time between games.

They even produced the following QVC parody commercial to promote these new products:

I have to imagine that something like this would be huge for athletes in other sports as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if Stephen Curry wears Under Armour sleepwear as well, considering they are playing sometimes 4 or 5 nights a week and have even less time to rest and recover.

It would probably be a great investment for body builders as well. Your muscles are torn up at the gym, and growth occurs when the muscle repairs itself between lifting sessions. With Under Armour’s relationship with The Rock, and with how much of a beast he is in the gym, I wouldn’t do he is wearing this stuff in his sleep as well.

I’m definitely planning on picking up a pair of these pajamas the next time I go on a UA shopping spree, which is happening quite often these days and filling my closet with my favorite brand of apparel. Can’t say enough about the stuff they keep releasing, they’re light years ahead of the competition in terms of innovation.

These days, if I’m not dressed up to go out for dinner or drinks or other event, I’m more than likely wearing some kind of athletic gear. Around the house, out to the gym, out for a run, I’m pretty much wearing UA from head to toe and inside and out (including UA boxers, the best fitting undergarments I’ve ever worn).

I figure since I’m wearing their stuff all the time while I’m awake, I may as well follow Tom Brady’s lead and see what their gear can do for me in my sleep as well, and I’ll definitely be trying these out to see if they can help me sleep better. I also like that this apparel is part of a two-part plan for better sleep, the other part being the Sleep Recovery System added to the UA Record app. This program tracks your sleep over the course of 14 days and gives you a score on how well you slept. I’m sure I can glean a lot of good info out of that, and I’ll be curious to see how I score before and after using their sleepwear.

I love this brand and what they’re doing in all facets, always raising the bar. Can’t wait to see what they come out with next!
