Recent Site Updates for February 2016

Hey Everyone!

Tim here, and I wanted to just fill you in on a few new things added to Things Men Buy in the last few weeks.

For starters, I finally got a quick review of my favorite cigar shop online.  You can check it out there.

I’ve also added a few new videos to the YouTube channel.  I think you’ll find that some are just every day things we buy, like regular stuff from around the house.  I found myself doing a lot of upkeep on my house over the weekend since there wasn’t any football on!  I really miss football, although that ending in the Daytona 500 was pretty insane!

I actually have a copy of Norm’s book, “South of Normal” coming to me via Amazon.  I look forward to posting a review of that, I’m a big fan of Norm’s work and can’t wait to see about his adventures traveling the world.  Pretty crazy stuff.  If you don’t know Norm, he’s an editor and contributor here from time to time.  You can read about him on this page.

This YouTube video continues to be the most watched one that I’ve done so far.  I guess people really like to look for iPhone cases.  (Hey, I’ve broken 11, so I guess I’m not alone.)

Okay, so here’s what’s coming up in the coming months!

I have a few trips planned.  Heading to Copper Mountain, Colorado for a family ski trip.  I hope to have a lot of snow and safe travels.  I’ll be going to Las Vegas for a friend’s book release as well around April 1.  So there is a lot in store.

I just bought a brand new Cannondale Mountain bike (it’ll be reviewed here shortly) and it’s working like a charm. I logged about 20 miles last week and I like the way it handles. It goes fast like a ten speed but can take the bumps and rough terrain as well.  My last bike wasn’t as fast so I’m having fun keeping up with my ten year old all of a sudden.

Other than that, I’m still doing my best to get in shape for Summer.  I’m really looking forward to warmer weather, as we’ve had a cold front in South Florida.  (I know, you Northern folks are probably like “cry me a river.”  I can relate, I’m a Minnesotan.)

See you all soon, thanks for your readership.

Tim

How to Detox Your Body After a Bender

We’ve all been there, we’ve all done that.  My recent travels are something I can point to that speak volumes about how healthy (that’s a joke) life has been thus far in 2016.  Today, I’m going to share with you how to detox your body after going on a bender.  (A bender being a series of days where you drink too much, eat too much, and don’t work out or pay attention to health.)

Las Vegas for a trade show.

Minnesota for an Ice Fishing Tournament.

Grand Cayman for vacation.

Costa Rica on business.

It’s been a wild ride, and it’s not like when I travel I like to go find the nearest gym and spend the whole time trying to look as big as I can for everyone. At my age, its quite the opposite.

Here are My Five Hacks for Detoxing After a Trip or Bender

#1:  Water.

This isn’t a secret, yet many people forget how simple it is to simply drink your way out of being bloated.  As an owner of an anti aging company, among other ventures in the health and wellness space, I always drink plenty of water for the obvious health benefits.  Drinking water alone can help you lose weight, but more importantly, feel fuller and therefore you won’t continue to feed the beast and become even more bloated.

Extra Credit:  Start every day with a tall glass of water with the juice of a lemon inside.

#2:  Fiber.

This continues the theme of what goes into your body helps get out all the madness and chaos that’s inside.  Consumer fiber after a bad trip of pizza, burgers, wings, jalapeno poppers, and all the other stuff you threw right down the hatchet.

#3:  Mate Fit.

You can substitute any detox tea, but I found Mate Fit to the best detox tea for me.  It gets all the crap out of me without having me sit on the john all day long.  Plus, it’s very tasty.

#4:  Work Out.

When in doubt, sweat it out.  Throw on some UA clothing and get your ass to the gym.  Run around, play sports, take the dogs for a walk, etc.  You’ve probably been very idle and eating a lot of calories, so shock your body by throwing a serious workout in there and keep the heart rate up by doing small activities along the way.  Take the stairs when you go up two to three floors instead of taking the elevator.  Look, you’ve had a massive calorie overage, and now you need to do all you can to turn that around – FAST.  Look to get an advantage in your calorie deficit any way possible.

Use health supplements if need be.  Read more about those on this page.

#5:  Eat Fruits, Veggies, & Fish.

You need to eat healthy foods that can go through your system fast.  Eating a ribeye, as awesome as that is, isn’t going to help.  Sure, going low carb is smart for a while now, but you need to eat things that you are going to get out of your system fast.  Low calorie foods like fish, veggies, and fruit are perfect.

When on vacation, I usually eat a HUGE breakfast or if it’s quick and easy – a big, carb loaded, fat loaded bagel with all the fixin’s.  When I’m at home, I change this up to fresh fruit.  It makes a huge difference.

I literally am on my first day back from Costa Rica, where I consumed a ton of adult beverages pool side and at Super Bowl parties, so I’m going through this regimen right now.  It really works.  I’ll drop 5-6 pounds of weight I picked up by the time the weekend rolls back around.  The main question now is, can I behave this weekend?  :)
