The Beginners Guide to Buying a Hookah

When you’re thinking of getting yourself a hookah, there are a lot of things you should take into consideration to avoid buying yourself a bad product or having to deal with harsh hookah smoke later down the road.

Here are some basic things you have to look for when considering a hookah purchase, such as what height the hookah is, how many stems it has and the price. It is preferable that you are there in person to examine the hookah to make the best purchasing decision.

Hookah Material

There are many materials to choose from when buying a hookah. These include glass, stainless steel, ceramic and solid brass. However, according to experts, your best option is solid brass. These hookahs are much more durable than the other types because of their resistance to corrosion. The catch is that you’re going to have to polish them regularly for them to maintain that sheen. If you’re not excited about the idea of a solid brass hookah, then consider a stainless steel one as the next best option.

The Height of the Hookah

The height of the hookah is another important consideration. If you buy a hookah that is too tall, it is going to be especially difficult to handle as the dynamics of suction and preparation of the hookah are complicated. When you get one that is too short, it may be uncomfortable to use as some smokers will have to bend too far when smoking from the pipes. The ideal height for both performance and handling is between 28 inches to 32 inches.

The Number of Hoses

There is a common association between the number of hoses in a hookah and the amount of fun you can have with it. People often think that when everyone has their own hose, the eliminated need for sharing hoses is going to make smoking more fun. However, this is not true.

The problem with having multiple hoses on a hookah is that the performance of the hookah gets impacted negatively as a result. When all hoses are open, then no one can inhale as there isn’t enough suction. The more hoses that are open, the harder it is to suck. The only way to solve this issue is to have the other hoses closed with a rubber stopper whenever one is open to improve suction. Therefore, it makes sense to go for a multistem hookah with stoppers on the hoses.

The Cost

While the logic seems to be that the cheaper it is, the lower the quality and vice versa, you should be careful when picking a hookah based on the price alone. Buying a hookah on the lowest end of the price scale will likely assure a low-quality hookah. However, buying an expensive hookah may not improve on the quality of the device. To be safe, it is usually better to choose one of the brands in the industry. However, if you can pick the good hookahs from the bad ones, consider getting an unbranded one. You may get a better deal in terms of price. In the end, you should find one that meets the needs of you and your friends.
