Cocktail Glasses For Your Home Bar

cocktail glasses for home barWe have done a few posts now on cocktails so, which cocktail glasses for your home bar are the ones that you need?

If you want to try vodka-based or gin-based cocktails and you want to impress your guests, it’s vitally important that you serve your cocktails in the right glass.

Cocktail Glasses For Your Home Bar

#1. Must-have Cocktail Glasses For Your Home Bar

The Cocktail (or Martini) Glass

The classic shape of the conical glass that you see James Bond holding when he is drinking his “shaken not stirred” favorite martini is famous around the world.  You will need some of these glasses if you are going to impress your friends with a fabulous martini or two!

The Highball & Collins Glasses

If you are a fan of the classic Tom Collins or a Harvey Wallbanger, you will want to invest in some Collins glasses.  Highball cocktails include the Bloody Mary.  You can use highballs and collins glasses interchangeably, in some home bars you will just find one or the other.

The Old Fashioned (or Rocks) Glass

In Norm’s post on 7 Cocktails every man should know, you’ll find mention of the Old Fashioned.  This is a “lowball” glass which is a short tumbler, ideal for short mixed drinks or a neat spirit or liqueur of your choice “on the rocks”. This glass is perfect for a White Russian.

The Shot Glass

Here’s another must-have, there will always be a point in any home bar’s lifetime when a round of shots is called for!  Shot glasses can come in many different shapes and sizes and are ideal for shots or mixed shooters.

Two Wine Glasses

Traditionally, a White Wine Glass is taller and more open; while a Red Wine Glass is a rounder, smaller bowl.  The larger glass is also perfect if you like to add ice to your wine.  I have to admit that I’m not much a wine fan, so my wine glasses are cheap and cheerful and they can be picked up anywhere.

Beer Glasses

There are various types of beer glasses – it is best to do a bit of research to find out which beer glass goes with the beer that is your favorite.  With the advent of craft beers, there are many different beer glasses that you could use.

#2. Optional Cocktail Glasses For Your Home Bar

Champagne Flute

If you or your buddies are lovers of Champagne, Prosecco or Cava, then you will need some champagne flutes.  The tall, tapered flute is designed to keep the bubbles in longer and there is definitely something very civilized about sipping from a champagne flute!

Margarita Glass

This tequila based cocktail is a favorite and you can’t beat it served out of a margarita glass made specifically for this delicious drink.  The wide based rim makes it easy to add a salt or sugar rim and this glass works great for frozen margaritas too.  This is another cocktail that is in Norm’s top 7.

Moscow Mule Copper Mug

Finally, I can’t finish this post without mentioning the Moscow Mule Copper Mug.  Check out our post on Advanced Mixology where you can pick up a Copper Mug or two.

There are also alternative Mule recipes which benefit from the copper mugs you will have in your home bar.
