Where Can You Find Nemo?

where can you find nemoYou’ve seen the movie and now you want to go and see Nemo in his own environment! Where can you find Nemo?  Well, first of all you need to head for the sea and either learn to dive or get some snorkelling gear.

Nemo is a clownfish and they live in shallow water, less than 150ft in depth.  Their home is certain types of anemone, which can be found on a coral reef.

Where Can You Find Nemo?

To find clownfish in their natural environment, you need to find the anemone which they call home.  These anemones can be found on coral reefs throughout the world.

There are growing concerns that climate change is affecting our coral reefs, as the warmer water bleaches and weakens the anemones.  This may cause the clownfish to get stressed and then be less likely to reproduce.

To find Nemo, the best place to go is a tropical, coral reef.  These will all take a bit of travelling to get to, but they are well worth it as in all of these destinations, diving is just one of the things on offer.

Koh Samui & Phuket, Thailand

Phuket is the largest island in Thailand and is a mecca for divers and beach lovers.

Nemo can be found on the coral reefs and you will be able to see clownfish when you are both diving and snorkelling.

Remember not to touch the coral when you are watching fish as you will not only damage the reef, but can also get coral cuts.

Koh Samui

Koh Samui is in the Gulf of Thailand and is also a great place to find Nemo and to enjoy all the other things that Koh Samui has to offer.

The best time to dive these spots in Thailand are opposite ends of the year due to monsoons and weather.  If you are heading to Phuket, visit between October to May; if you choose to travel to Koh Samui instead, visit between June to September.  The PADI travel site has more information for you to choose your destination.

Great Barrier Reef, Australia

The Great Barrier Reef is a diver’s lifetime dream and is an awesome Wonder of the World which apparently can be seen from the moon!

You are guaranteed to find Nemo here, as well as turtles and reef sharks.

The diving is good all year round and Cairns, due to its location in the middle of the Barrier Reef is a great place to base your travels from.  Cairns would be a perfect venue to do your PADI course at and then you will be able to dive where you choose to.

Heron Island is a particular favorite as it is a nature reserve which you can stay on and explore the reef from.  Special times of the year on the Great Barrier Reef are from June – November when humpback whales are commonly spotted, and in October / November during coral spawning.

The Red Sea, Egypt

The other diver’s mecca for spectacular reef diving is the Red Sea, Egypt.

This is also a good place to learn to dive, the best diving months are October and November for the highest visibility.  This area can be dived for most of the year though.

The Red Sea is a perfect place to experience a liveaboard if you want to dive some of the best that this area has to offer.
