Guys Weekend in Miami Things to Do

a beach view for guys weekend things to do in MiamiAlright, guys, we are going to kick it and lick it to the max Miami-style. Get the boys together and visit the steamy, sexy, urban beach party paradise that is The Magic City. Pick a few of my guys weekend in Miami things to do and good trouble is sure to follow. At least I hope its good. If not, that’s on you.

A word of warning. Bring money. Whatever you think is enough, bring a lot more. If you want to see the hottest women and hit the spots with the most action and fun, it is gonna cost you. Ten bucks and more for beers and drinks are not uncommon. You have been fiscally warned.

One more thing. I’m taking a “skin to win” attitude here, you know what I’m saying? If you’re looking for great Miami restaurants, check out my list of best Miami steak houses. Eat like men! Now, on to the action…

My Guys Weekend in Miami Things to Do Checklist

Miami, Florida style pool party with lots of womenPool Parties

No guys weekend in Miami is complete without hitting a pool party. Either stay at a hotel that has an insane pool and party scene or find somewhere you can get in…at least for awhile. If you’re not staying at the hotel, you’ll most likely have to either deal with limited hours that you’re allowed in or have to pay to get in on their pool party action.

Now that you’ve been forewarned, here are a few you want to check out for your guys out weekend.

Hyde at SLS South Beach

Hyde at SLS South Beach offers legendary pool fun from noon to sunset every Saturday and Sunday. Get right and get looking at all the bikini-clad splendor splashing around here. Hard to beat.

Freehand Miami

The upscale Freehand Miami is a tourist mecca for party people. The pool parties here are an around the clock escape from reality to be sure.

The Clevelander

Since most pool parties either have a cover or you have to be a hotel guest for full access, the Clevelander offers access. Their pool is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 3 pm until 8 pm.

nightclub scene in MiamiNightclubs

In Miami, nightclubs are taken to high art. Lots of choices and lots of action of all types. Beautiful people abound and you can get right in the mix during your guys weekend.

E11Even

This place is like Cirque de Soleil with more skin showing. Sexy cabaret action, hot flexible females and more abound. Naturally, this 24/7 club is more mellow during the day. However, at night it seems like almost anything can happen. Anything includes g-string clad hotties on stage strutting their goods. Extreme state of the art sound and LED lighting will bombard your senses. If you’re getting sensory overload, they have a chill rooftop complete with bar for a change of pace.

Story

If you’re wanting quintessential Miami glitz, glamour, and barely dressed female bodies serving drinks, Story is a place to hit. Plenty of the special effects and excitement you’d expect at a mega-club matched with top of the heap house music and hip-hop. If you want the best of that music paired with the best over the top show and scene, this is the place.

Are there more clubs? Hell yes! But you can start with these two I mentioned and take off from there.

exotic dancer in miamiStrip Clubs

You know damn well that no weekend for the guys in Miami would be complete without going to a strip club! Between pool parties, nightclubs, and hitting the beach, you’d have to be blind not to see some world class female forms. But us men are men and sometimes it’s a good time to just be able to check out some major talent without pretense.

Foxxy Lady Cabaret

The Foxxy Lady is a newly remodeled club that has a laid-back vibe. Plenty of hotties to check out to your heart’s, and wallet’s, content. They offer a great Friday Happy Hour featuring a free buffet! This could be a primo start…use this as your early launch pad! Get fed and get stoked here to set the tone for the weekend.

King of Diamonds

Do you want outstanding women that will make your eyes pop outta your skull? Do you want to see some dancers working the pole like nowhere else? If so, King of Diamonds is for you and the boys. They have some pretty cool specials from time to time, so check their website first and then call to make sure they still have what you want going on.

There you go, men. Take the above info and create your own bacchanalian guys weekend in Miami things to do recipe of way too much fun. Keep one thing in mind, I’m not responsible for what happens if you take my advice. Just sayin’…

List of Best Steak Houses in San Diego

City and Bay Skyline at place from my list of best San Diego Steakhouses

Enjoy the views and the steaks in San Diego, California!

San Diego may be associated more with spicy Mexican influenced dishes than cuts of steak, but this city does not disappoint in either quality or quantity of restaurants showcasing beef. I’ve managed to slice and dice until I’ve come up with the following list of the best steak houses in San Diego winners. Whichever one you choose, you’ll have a winning night of dining.

Here’s the List of the Best Steakhouses in San Diego

Donovan’s Steak & Chop House
1250 Prospect St.
La Jolla

Since their beef is aged no less than 21 days and it is all USDA Prime, Donovan’s is one of San Diego’s top steak houses. Whether you are looking for a rib-eye chop tipping the scales at 24-ounces or feeling like dining light with a petite filet, you can find it here. They only have a token offering of seafood but have a fine selection of salads and side dishes to round out your meal.

Gaslamp Strip Club
340 Fifth Ave.
San Diego

For a real change of pace, the Gaslamp is the hotspot place for you. If you’re looking for a San Diego sports bar or Gentleman’s Club, this is definitely not it!

The Gaslamp is a combination 21 and over martini bar and grill your own steakhouse. You read that right, you cook your own steak here. First select your own raw steak, next gather with other patrons at one of their central grills, then follow the posted directions if you want or need to, finally you’ll be able to enjoy your dinner cooked by yourself. Sure does add an element of sociability that could be fun. Be sure to select a classic martini to complete the experience.

Morton’s The Steakhouse
285 J St.
San Diego

The San Diego location of this respected national chain is across from the convention center and by the Gaslamp Quarter in downtown. Choose from a classic such as Filet Diane or perhaps a healthy New York Strip is more to your liking. With an extensive, quality menu, business people choose Morton’s to impress and any tourist can enjoy their sophisticated happy hour.

plated steak cooked medium

I don’t see any veggies?!?! Wait, that sprig counts. Whew, dig in!

Stake Chophouse & Bar
1309 Orange Ave. 2nd Floor
Coronado

For a steak experience of the highest caliber, it would be tough to find anyplace that does it better than Stake. With cutting-edge chef Tim Kolanko and sophisticated wine director Greg Majors, your food and beverage desires are exceeded. Specialties include a Snake River Farms Skirt steak, a selection of Wagyu beef, and all the cuts you would expect at a top-tier steak restaurant. Plan for a multi-course meal to enjoy all they have to offer.

West Steak & Seafood
4980 Avenida Encinas
Carlsbad

Another chef-driven entree in my list of best steakhouses in San Diego is this north county establishment. Prime steaks that are super tender and wet-aged are offered including a 16-ounce bone-in filet. Their approach is to let the flavor of the meat speak for itself. With that in mind, only a little butter and a little sea salt are added to help bring out the natural flavors. The setting is modern, the service is professional level without pretentiousness which translates to a relaxing fine dining experience.

Harbor and City View from Island Prime

The views are as tasty as the steaks at Island Prime!

Island Prime
880 Harbor Island Drive
San Diego

With an indulgent interior of dark woods, sleek stone and plenty of glass, plus a location on the water with what is arguably the best view of the city and harbor, Island Prime is already a winner. The successful Cohn family showcases their steak house prowess with an international selection of Artisan Steaks. Filet Mignon from Nebraska, Australian Angus NY Strip, and Colorado Flat Iron are just a few beef selections from their full menu. Add a classic cocktail or tropical concoction to complement your meal and you’ll have a more than memorable evening…and one you’ll want to repeat soon.

San Diego is a great coastal city that gets better every year. Diverse and lively, tourists can have a fantastic vacation enjoying attractions, beaches, restaurants, and history in a tough to beat climate. When there and wanting a hearty meal, using my list of the best steak houses in San Diego won’t do you wrong.

How to Find The Best Selfie Stick

Selfie sticks today come with so many features that it can easily become quite confusing which one to get. Whether you love taking selfies when you are on an adventure, or you want to make videos for your social media page with ease, a selfie stick is a must have these days. If you are buying one for the first time, there are some important features to consider that will make your experience so much better.

You may remember a review I posted a few years ago about the ThrillPro.  Today, I’m going to share with you some info about the market, because it’s changed drastically since then.

Guide to Buying Selfie Sticks in 2018

Read our little guide below to find the best selfie stick. It covers the most important features that are widely popular and should hopefully land you a very good selfie stick.

Size – Selfie sticks come in all sizes and lengths. But the most important bit is the size of the cradle at the end of the selfie stick. Since smartphones are now mostly big, you need to make sure the cradle of the stick is able to easily grasp your large phone. If you have a small phone, then you may not need to worry about sizes.

Additional attachments – Selfie sticks these days also offers the ability to attach more accessories. For example, you can find a selfie stick that also converts into a tripod, giving you the ability to capture stable shots. If you want more out of a selfie stick, check out the ones that come with extensions.

Remote control – Selfie sticks are useless if you do not have any mechanism on the stick that at least allows you to take a shot with a press of a button. Most selfie sticks come with a Bluetooth feature that connects to your phone and lets you take shots with a press of button. But be aware, there are selfie sticks that do not have this functionality.

Cradle grip – consider the safety of your device when buying a selfie stick. Usually a selfie stick should have a tight cradle with a very nice grip that holds your phone together. Steer clear of sticks that have a cheap grip because your phone can easily fall off from a height that it may not endure.

Length – even though length is very important, sometimes longer can mean inconvenience. Long selfie sticks tend to take a lot of luggage space and are hard to carry around. If you travel a lot, try to find a selfie stick that easily folds and become small when needed.

Of course, if you want all of the homework done for you, follow this selfie stick buying guide and just thank me later.  These guys put together some solid reviews, and I personally haven’t found a better place to find solid reviews.

List of Best Steak Houses in Chicago

a list of the best steakhouses downtown chicagoChicago is a city where business is done. It’s also a great tourist city. Whatever the reason you find yourself in this classic city on the lake, you need to get in the city…in the downtown and surrounding areas and live a little. As we know life is too short to not squeeze out some serious enjoyment now and then. Living well includes eating well which is why I’ve put together a list of the best steak houses in Chicago to guide your next culinary excursion in Illinois’ biggest city. I’m not talking about sports bars here, this is all about serious beef steaks in restaurants with an atmosphere to match.

My list is in no particular order. If you love steak (I know I do), my restaurant list will lead you to a place that is not only Chicago to the core, but will serve you an unforgettable steak in a memory-inducing atmosphere! The bonus is every one of these joints have fantastic cocktails and wines too.

My List of the Best Steak Houses in the City of Chicago

Bavette’s Steakhouse and Bar
218 W. Kinzie St.

Take a trip back to the age of jazz at Bavette’s and enjoy a dry-aged 24-ounce rib-eye while sitting in a red leather booth. There will be an over your head chandelier at this sultry charm filled steak restaurant. How about a “cuts like butter” bone in filet for that special occasion? Take a stroll through this classy European inspired restaurant and be sure to stop by the zinc top bar for some serious bourbon, signature cocktails, craft beer, or carefully selected wine.

Benny’s Chop House
444 N. Wabash

Looking for old school? Benny’s Chop House Restaurant serves up an old school dim, clubby atmosphere with a modern flair. Prime Allen Brothers meats are featured here. Be aware that you will have a “healthy” dinner bill when all is said and done. Their steaks are dry-aged, well marbled and packed with flavor which is just what beef fans want. Great wines and cocktails will complement your posh evening here.

Chicago Cut Steakhouse
300 N. LaSalle St.

Suited business types and the well-to-do mix during the evenings in the window-walled dining room of this place for steaks. Chicago Cut offers USDA Prime steaks out of New York that they dry-age on-premise in their dry aging room. Expect a good crust when you order a char-broiled burger. How about what they call “The Holy Grail”? That’s a Bone-In-Prime Rib which will set you back $74.00. Full bar and a full menu that includes seafood, fresh salads, sushi, and shellfish will impress. They are also known for offering the “Best Business Breakfast” and lunch is served too.

dining room of gene and georgette's steak restaurantGene & Georgetti
500 N. Franklin St.

If you want to take a trip back to the early 1940’s, then this steak joint is for you. This restaurant has a legendary history filled with movie stars, politicians, more. The crowd skews older and steaks “like they used to do them” reign supreme! Classic is the rule here with their dry-aged Prime cut beef. When you dine here, you’ll get a big, top quality slab of beef served to you in a Chicago institution. They offer a full menu but stick with a steak to avoid disappointment. We’re talking steak houses after all!

Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse
1028 N. Rush St.

Here’s another manly steak restaurant in the city of big shoulders. Wood paneling and potted plants evoke that club atmosphere popular in Chicago restaurants. Upscale and classic with a clientele from the famous to the guy down the street. Aged Prime steaks are well featured here. But there’s more. Gibson’s is well known for putting out their raw steaks at your table side along with huge lobster tails because these are their specialties. Everything is big and over-the-top. Since the cuts of steak and just about everything else including the desserts are giant sized, they don’t mind diners sharing dinners. Something to remember if you’re wanting a good meal without having to take out a loan.

Michael Jordan’s Steak House
InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile
505 N. Michigan Ave.
big filet with charbroiled crust

Get ready to sink your teeth into this gorgeous filet!

How could I possibly give you a list of the top steakhouses in Chicago without mentioning favorite son Michael Jordan’s place in the iconic InterContinental Chicago? Once again we’re talking about a steak restaurant in Chicago with old-school decor, glitz, and glamour. This place oozes swank from the dining room to the bar. Dimly lit and lots of leather too! How about a 24-ounce bone-in rib-eye that’s been wet aged for almost a month. You heard me…wet aged. Flip the coin and have a 16-ounce, 45 days dry-aged Prime Delmonico steak adorned with a balsamic-based au jus. Fancy dessert? There’s a 23-layer chocolate cake among other sweet finishes.

If you don’t mind spending for a great dinner or if your job includes an expense account to woo and impress clients when in the Windy City be sure to indulge your inner carnivore with dinner at one of these restaurants on my list of great Chicago steak houses.

List of Best Steakhouses in Miami

best steakhouses in miami florida listMany of us at thingsmenbuy.com travel every chance we get. For this reason, we like to help you to find quality places that you can enjoy. That enjoyment may be exotic locales, party hardy scenes, booze drenched dive bars, hottie filled dance clubs, balls out sports bars, and/or different types of restaurants. With that in mind, I’ve compiled a short list of top of the line steakhouses in Miami and super close to Miami (in one particular case).

When you arrive for your dinner at any of the following establishments, be sure to call your banker first.  You’ll open your wallet wide, very wide, but the food, atmosphere, and experience will be well worth it. So, go. Have a good time. Don’t blame me if you don’t.

Naturally, each fine steak house listed here not only has a stellar wine “cellar” they also have unique signature drinks and outstanding cocktails. If you prefer classics like a Rob Roy while in South Beach, or a Martini in Miami, you will not be disappointed. Just the opposite, in fact.

My List of Miami’s Finest Steakhouse Restaurants

michael mina's miami bourbon steak dining roomOut of Miami, But Just Barely…

Bourbon Steak
Turnberry Isle
19999 W. CountryClub Drive
Aventura, FL

A Micheal Mina modern steakhouse featuring a trendy design and setting. Prime cut steaks from a wood grill and seasonal seafood are offered along with specialty desserts. An A+++ experience awaits you here.

Back to Miami

The Capital Grille
Rivergate Plaza
444 Brickell Ave.
Miami, FL

This classic steakhouse offers a refined atmosphere for both lunch and dinner. This location of the national chain has an opulent setting and is resplendent with dark mahogany, high back upholstered chairs, and private booths perfect for the power meetings renowned at this location. Featured are dry-aged beef and a 350 bottle-strong wine selection.

Edge Steak & Bar
Four Seasons Hotel Miami
1435 Brickell Ave.
7th Floor
Miami, FL

This is a glamorous steakhouse restaurant which uses herbs actually grown on the property. Expect American fusion fare featuring grass-fed beef charbroiled at 1,800 degrees seasoned with proclaimed “cutting edge rubs”, seasonal seafood that is local as available, and their signature tartares. The wine list is global in scope with offerings not usually found in Miami.

Time for Miami Beach Steakhouses and Action!

The Forge Restaurant Wine Bar
432 W. 41st St.
Miami Beach, FL

Expect oak panels here, lots of them. For a former 1920’s era blacksmith shop, they sure dropped serious coin to create a sophisticated steakhouse. The renovation cost $10 million. After the renovation, this gilded and chandelier laden space became popular with celebrities. It’s not all fit and finish though. Dry aged Prime beef is a specialty. Don’t miss the 16-ounce center-cut N.Y. strip loin with a “perfect crust”. Their international wine list is famous for its quality and variety.

south beach action at meat market steakhouse and barMeat Market
915 Lincoln Rd.
Miami Beach, FL

Despite being touted as “South Beach’s Sexiest Steakhouse”, Meat Market is serious about beef. While enjoying the very sleek and very sexy decor, not to mention the happening bar scene, when dinner is served you’ll be reminded that food is the star here. Skirt steaks, Wagyu rib-eyes, and more plus expertly prepared seafood fill the menu. Popular and creative small plates are available too. If non-traditional is how you roll, then this will be the place for you.

Whichever one or ones you choose, have a fabulous dining experience at one of the best steakhouses in Miami. I’m certain you will.

How to Write Tinder Openers That Work Like a Charm

You are witty, full of conversation, and people tell you that you are good looking.

That said, you only have one shot to make a first impression with women you meet online, and today I’m opening up my vault of Tinder openers so you can have the ultimate hack – one liners that are geared towards getting a response!  You can really use these in any message exchanging format, but I wrote this with the Tinder App in mind.

Just copy these Tinder Openers – they are tried and tested.  Some things in life are just better done when a formula is followed, so why re-invent the wheel?

If you are looking to see just how easy it can be to get women to reply to you, use this list of the best tinder openers, then come back here and thank me later with a comment.

The Best Tinder Openers for Responses

To start off, here is a solid Tinder opener you can use that will encourage women to flirt back at you.  Again, this is a tried and tested message you can open with.

Opener #1:  The “expert opener”

Hey (insert name) I need your advice on something important….

This opening statement works like a charm because what girl won’t naturally be intrigued?  It’s a mind fuck of sort, where they will scratch their head and think long and hard about how to reply.

With this sort of Tinder opener, women will generally let their guard down and have curiosity about what could you possibly be asking her advice for.

Just sit back and wait for it.  It’ll work wonders.

Replying to This Tinder Opener

So you lobbed out the message, and she replied.  Maybe it was witty, maybe it was a one liner simply asking what you wanted advice on.

It’s now on YOU to reply with something witty.

Response #1:

“Okay, there is this (insert eye color) attractive girl who is really into me, and we’re trying to figure out a first date.  She is a classy girl and seems sophisticated, but I’m trying to figure out if we should go to fancy restaurant right from the get go, or just sort of go with a sports bar / lounge since I know she likes sports as well.  What do you think?”

She will reply and suggest one or the other, and you will strike here!

Response #2:

Great, what’s your number so we can plan that out?

Boom, there you have it.  An easy opening line you can use at Tinder.  This obtained a phone number without much back and forth, and let’s face it, uncomfortable, boring “how are you today” type messages that nobody really sends with any care anyway.

Provoking thoughts and catching women off guard is one of the best ways to get them to open up to you, and this templated system does just that.

Reasons Why This Works So Well

#1:  You compliment her.  (Always do this, and do so repeatedly.)

#2: You paid attention to her.  (You read her profile enough to know her interests.  Refer to them in your message.)

#3:  You got her buy in and decision on a date.  (She selected one of the two, didn’t she?)

So with compliments abundant, and a first date idea all set to be mapped out, what do you have to lose?  This generates so many responses, it’s almost unfair.

Of course, I use these on many dating sites for adults as well, but they aren’t as needed there because, you know, the women are pretty horny as is.  This type of message works on sites like Plenty of Fish,

Slap Shot The Movie Review

slap shot the movie reviewAnyone else play ice hockey when they were a kid? I couldn’t resist doing a Slap Shot the movie review, as I was an ice hockey goalie back in the day!

Let’s face it, any movie with Paul Newman in is usually worth watching! My all-time favorite Newman movies are Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid and The Sting.  Slap Shot comes in as a totally tongue-in-cheek look at ice hockey and has some hilarious bits in it!  Interestingly, George Roy Hill directed all of them!

Slap Shot the Movie Review

For starters, here’s the original, official trailer for this 1977 movie:

Slap Shot had mixed reviews on release, but it also became a cult classic and loved by many sports fans.

The film was written by Nancy Dowd and she based it on her brother’s brief career in a minor league hockey team.  In fact, her brother is even given a cameo role as the dreaded enforcer Ogie Ogilthorpe.  In his playing days Ned Dowd was a player on the Johnstown Jets of the North American Hockey League.

The movie is full of choice language, which apparently is what Dowd heard while following her brother in the minor leagues.  This is what gave it the “R” rating and is very probably why you’ll never see it, in it’s uncut version, on TV.  Dowd even asked her brother to go as far as setting up a tape recorder in the Jets’ locker room and on team bus rides!

Slap Shot the Movie Review Extra Facts

  • All the violent scenes were based on actual incidents involving the Jets.  In the mid-’70s, there were some brutal teams, eg, the Philadelphia Flyers were known as the “Broad Street Bullies”
  • The movie also accurately depicts the boredom and monotony of being a minor league player
  • And how bored the wives were too, as Swoozie Furtz said  “I only drink in the afternoon. Or before a game. Or when Johnny’s away.”
  • The audience of the ’70s wasn’t ready for Slap Shot, but many of the parts of the movie the initial audience took exception to, are the parts we love today!
  • Hill was insistent on the stars of the movie being able to skate, which meant that Al Pacino, Nick Nolte, Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Tommy Lee Jones, Kurt Russell and Richard Gere did not pass their auditions.
  • Rolling Stone describes Slap Shot as rowdy, raunchy, hilarious, absurd, deeply depressing and profoundly human.  Which sums it up to be honest!
  • Slap Shot comes in at #7 in the Rolling Stone Top 30 sports movies of all time

If you used to play hockey as a kid and you have room in your man cave, check out Tim’s post on the Super Chexx Hockey game!
