The Ultimate Boy’s Vacation To Malaysia

The Ultimate Boy’s Vacation To Malaysia

A sun, sea, sand and adventure holiday with your friends might summon up images of Mexico, Vegas and LA, but you should be looking further afield. Malaysia attracted 217,000 American visitors in 2016 according to World Atlas’ most recent statistics, a much improved figure on the previous year. With excellent food and drink, unique culture and a huge range of adventure activities, Malaysia is a great choice for a boy’s trip abroad.

Preparing yourself properly

Before you book your flight, you need to make sure you’re prepared for the trip ahead. Malaysia is not the wild west, and in fact boasts some of the best healthcare in the world, according to Bloomberg. Accordingly, you can be safe in the knowledge that you’ll have a safe trip. Just make sure that you’re properly covered before you head on your trip, as healthcare can be expensive. The country accepts all major credit cards, and their currency is the ringgit, which typically exchanges for around a quarter per unit. Be aware that Malaysia is a Muslim country – whereas their Sharia laws apply only to Malaysian Muslims, their society is conservative and you can get in trouble for any behavior, like drunkenness, that could be deemed obscene.

The food and bars

One of Malaysia’s biggest pull factors is the street food. Malays are incredibly proud of their food, so much so that a claim from Singapore to have better food caused some regional tension, according to the New York Times. Try penang assam laksa, rojak or nasi lemak for just a few ideas – you’ll soon experience a huge range of flavors and preparations. In terms of location, outside of Kuala Lumpur you’ll find Jonor Bahru is famed for its food. As a tourist you are free to drink, and you’ll mostly enjoy European lagers as they seem to be the predominant choice.

Enthralling adventure activities

Malaysia is set in one of the most dramatic parts of the world, geographically speaking, with rolling hills and mountains in addition to the sea. According to The Culture Trip, you can enjoy ATV rides out of Kuala Lumpur, bungee jumping in Selangor, and ziplining in Sabah. Malaysia has made itself a tourist playground in recent years, and so there’s huge opportunities to be had for a little fun.

Malaysia, given its distance from the US, is not the first place that springs to mind for a boy’s holiday. However, it can soon become a home away from home, with amenities on par or better than the USA, and activities and food that are one of a kind. Travel safe, but consider it for your next trip.
