We are currently living through some very strange times, 2020 is sure to make its way into future history books! Since no one is really allowed to go outside, everything has gone digital – from yoga lessons to cooking classes, you can pretty much do anything you can think of from home. However, this doesn’t stop people’s longing for the outside world as we can feel stuck and anxious being in our homes all the time.
One trend that is massively on the rise these days is escaping into virtual reality, from seeking comfort in the virtual outdoors to overcoming frustrations with VR porn. Virtual reality may not quite be the real deal, but it’s as close as we can get right now.
For those of you who are new to the concept, in order to actually enjoy the virtual world, you will need some type of head-mounted display such as the Oculus Rift (incredibly high graphics and one of the most realistic feels you can get) or the Google Cardboard (the quality will be significantly lower, but it’s also one of the cheapest options). The quality will, of course, depend on the device you’re using and some goggles may not be compatible with the type of scenario you wish you participate in, so do your research before buying!
Alright, now that you know what virtual reality is, let’s have a look at a few cool things you can use it for to stay entertained during lockdown.
Keep Yourself Fit And Healthy (Or Just Watch Sports In A Really Cool Way)
Virtual reality can be used by players (as well as coaches) to train with more efficiency across a wide range of sports, from cycling to boxing – there are certain devices that can sync with your VR headset. You’ll be able to watch and experience certain situations repeatedly and improve each time.
Not keen on the “doing” as much as the “watching” when it comes to sports? VR is a fantastic way to watch your favourite sports games that will make you feel like you’re actually sitting in the audience! Imagine feeling the rush and excitement as hundreds of people around you are cheering for the match in front of your eyes. Even better still – you don’t have to pay for VIP tickets to sit in the best seats!
Take Care Of Your Mental Health
It can get pretty lonely for some of us during isolation, so it’s important now more than ever to take care of our anxiety, depression and any feelings that may come up as a result of this pandemic.
For example, some people with anxiety find meditating using VR to be an effective method to manage stress and boost coping mechanisms. These sessions can be guided if you’re unsure of what to do, or you can also do it solo but use VR as a peaceful space to go to. It’s so much easier to calm down your thoughts when you’re sitting next to a beautiful waterfall than in a messy house, watching the dog run up and down the stairs playing with the ball.
Keep Your Frustrations At Bay With VR Porn
Isolation and masturbation seem to go very well together, with the number of porn viewers around the world skyrocketing over the last month! VR porn is seeing a huge number of new subscribers too, as not only does it help with sexual frustrations, but there are also movies that can help people who are just looking for a loving partner experience or someone pretty to vent to at the end of a lonely day.
Have Some Fun With Games
When most of us think of virtual reality, the first thing that comes to mind is gaming. You can play games in VR alone or online with other people. You can choose to play in physical combat environments, go car racing or opt for something a little calmer with puzzle games to solve problems, move objects, or explore new places.
Paint Your Own Magical World
For the creative ones amongst you, have you ever heard of Google’s Tilt Brush? This cool device lets you paint in 3D space with virtual reality! It may not be the cheapest way to pass your time in lockdown, but imagine what amazing things you could create with your room as your canvas?
See The World!
This one may sound like an obvious one, but it certainly deserves a mention. We have no idea when we’ll be allowed to travel again, and for many of us seeing the world is one of the greatest joys of life.
With virtual reality, you can transform your living room into Machu Picchu, visit the Great Pyramids or have lunch on top of the Eiffel Tower. It may not be quite as good as the real deal, but at least you won’t have to wait 3 hours in the queue to get up there!
